Life on this island is never boring. I’m sitting cosily at home, by my fire, listening to the gale ratcheting up outside. According to the warnings it could be force ten by midnight. Not sure if I believe them. We get so many warning these days and they are usually exaggerated. Whatever, I’m guessing it will be an extremely noisy night with rain battering the windows and the wind rattling in the chimney.
Just as well we made the most of a dry interlude this afternoon and walked the nearby lanes. We trudged through so many sweet chestnuts that have fallen in the last couple of days, almost a health hazard. I’m surprised we didn’t have warnings of dangerous chestnuts on the road. Tomorrow there will be a few branches keeping them company.
The sky was still clear while we were out. Mont Orgueil castle standing proudly with France as a back drop. One of my favourite stretches of lane, always different whatever the season. The fields are being mowed ready for ploughing and before we know it potatoes will be going in again. The year turns so swiftly. Always love the smell of fresh cut grass, so summery.
This morning the weekly food planning and shopping. For once the shelves were looking well stocked and I didn’t have to change any menu plans. I’m becoming quite clever at thinking outside the box when items have disappeared . Just as well because it’s a common occurrence these days.
The highlight of my day was the view of the acer bush from my kitchen window it has turned to orange overnight. How is that possible?
Well I’m off to throw another log on the fire and try to beat my partner at Wordfeud. They always seem to have high scoring words. Grrrrr.
See you tomorrow.
