MOCA Bans Cloth Masks as Omicron Wave Surges

MOCA has become the first museum, so far as I know, to ban cloth masks. Visitors will be required to wear surgical, KF94, KN95, or N95 masks (as well as show proof of vaccination or a negative test). That rules out MOCA's own line of $28 artist-designed masks.

Between staff sickouts and general concerns about visitor safety, other museums are starting to react. The Underground Museum has postponed its reopening (formerly planned for Jan. 12). The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has temporarily shut down its premium-price photo op, the Oscar Experience

For what it's worth, a University of Washington model estimates that omicron infections have just peaked. Stay safe.

UPDATE: The UCLA Fowler Museum has closed during the surge.
