My love for the original Pussycat Dolls line-up will always be forever and true. As my heart barely mends after the disbandment of the "I Hate This Part" songstresses, the talented girls are still giving me music to gush over even if they are no longer a group. While Nicole Scherzinger and Jessica Sutta have definitely impressed, it's blonde bombshell Ashley Roberts' turn to bask in the spotlight of a commendable pop solo career.
While Roberts initially kicked off her solo efforts with the 2012 release of the decent "Yesterday", all was quiet on her side until the recent unveiling of "Clockwork", the new single set to appear on her upcoming debut album later this year. The new pop ballad is a surprise since it definitely shows the improvement in the singer's vocal abilities, providing a solid performance on a better-than-expected soaring pop ballad that should cause more people to take notice of her future endeavors.
"Clockwork" is the typical, depressing love song, as Roberts sings of a relationship that she keeps putting her energy into even though it has clearly run its course. "I love how you survive when you're losing a fight, there's no needs, no regrets, we don't play to rewind," she beautifully sings. Though there is not much going on during the short two verses, the brilliant chorus makes up for any slack. The former Pussycat Doll is surround by a sea of strings and drums that all come together to create a much more memorable effort than her previous pop attempt.
The singer has announced plans for another single release followed by the album sometime this year, but let's hope that more attention is paid to "Clockwork", which will be officially released on May 25. The new single screams for massive radio airplay, is wrapped in soaring production and shows that Roberts is a mature artist who's desire for a respected career is deserving and backed by a knowledge of what sound is currently trending. You've got to love a pop ballad when done right!
