One statement you can guarantee doesn't go with me is clean eating. Me of burger scoffing, cocktail guzzling and eating pizza wrapped in my duvet.
However lately I have in fact started to eat rather well. I've been going the gym everyday, and adopted a Keto diet. God those words sound so alien to me. Doing this though does somewhat limit you social life, so I decided to give myself a night off and have a good girls cocktail catch up with Ness.
With my new diet I've also been treating myself to some new clothes too to go "encourage" me.
Dress: Lavish Alice
Heels: Topshop
Cuff: Azuni
I adore the lace up sleeves on this fitted dress, classy, yet quirky. I just discovered the brand Lavish Alice and have fallen a bit in love.
But it's these heels that have got me in lust. Topshop have done it again, it really was love at first sight!
Just as well as I was taking Ness out in Mayfair, so a little effort was required.
The Polo Bar at The Westbury is an award-winning bar inspired by the Art Deco period. Chic and opulent without being pretentious, it has a relaxed feel to it- even if it does have Swarovski Crystal fittings and custom Fendi detailing!
We started with The Polo Bar's most famous drinks. Their gold flaked cocktails.
I had a Mayfair Gold which was made of Tanqueray gin shaken with fresh lychees and elderflower, splashed with Moët Brut Rosé NV. It was sweet, without being sickly, a really well balanced cocktail.
Ness had the Pomegranate Deluxe, made with Bombay Sapphire gin shaken with elderflower, lemon and freshly squeezed pomegranate juice.
Now though this is where the bar just becomes a genius.
Us girls, we love to share, passing around our cocktail from person to person. Well The Polo Bar have devised a way to not let you loose precious liquid and also not get a thousand different lipstick marks on your glass.
By giving a small shot of your cocktail with it, so your partner can try it all for themselves! What a genius! Sold!
After a couple of rounds we found ourselves gossiping about people, love and my most ridiculous silly but fun trip to Bournemouth with work.
Running into the sea at 4 in the morning? It completely made sense at the time! Sometimes you just have to not care and just kind of be in the moment.
Which is why when a pile of smoked salmon and caviar cones arrived, I just let go of that clean eating and dived right in.
Oh boy these are good!
It is always best to eat when drinking cocktail I've discovered, so a platter of prawns coated in Panko breadcrumbs was ordered. They were the biggest prawns I've seen in ages.
You know, the meaty kind that you can really wrap your mouth round. They were a winner in both our books.
But that isn't to say the duck spring rolls weren't worth ordering. In fact the dipping sauce was fab.
It was a sort of unwritten rule that the classic, drier cocktails are seen as for those we know their stuff, whilst fruity fun drinks are more for drinking and not caring.
I'd love to know my cocktail A-Z, but half the time I get scared ordering. So here is my tried and reviewed drinks for you.
I had the El Prèsidente, a mix of Havana blanco, orange Curaçao, stirred with Cocchi Americano vermouth and homemade grenadine. Strong stuff.
Whilst Ness had a Corpse Reviver #2 made of Sipsmith gin shaken with Absinthe, Cocchi Americano vermouth, Cointreau and lemon.
The winner? The Corpse Reviver #2. It honestly tastes like lemon meringue pie, no word of a lie!
Finally we finished on some more dessert-y cocktails- like a three course, liquid meal.
Ness had the Brazilian Kiss. Leblon Çachaa shaken with freshly muddled blueberries, vanilla syrup, a touch of lime and topped up with Moët NV. A gorgeous long, fruity drink.
However I ended the night on a high. I found the most wonderful drink. It's called Sweet Almond and is made of Amaretto Disaronno with strawberry infused Port, shaken with lemon and sugar, and is just perfection. Seriously this is the drink of the night.
OK yes so I may have said about a liquid 3 course dinner, but I couldn't leave my cheat day behind without indulging is some actually dessert, could I?
Think of your summer ice cream cones, just a little more Mayfair. Black Forest Cornetto Sweet cones filled with Kirsch flavoured cherries and Chantilly cream.
Now that's worth cheating over.
We may have ended the night on a repeat round of our dessert drinks.
The Polo Bar is a fantastic venue, chic, yet much more relaxed than you might think.
Plus the staff are actually the friendliest people- if you go, ask for the GM, he will tell you everything you want to know about everything, and has such time for his patrons.
